If you remember, the fam and I hit up Ascot last year. The only thing was, there was just a few of us, whereas this year we got a BOX baby! Which meant that, since I’m very persuasive, I got to bring along Boy and Frankie too. Pow pow pow.
Oh, and what’s that behind us you ask? China Chen (Mum) decided to get us a stretch hummer.
Super tacky. But we still loved it. Whatever makes her happy!
Boy and I made sure we at least attempted to get a nice picture of us for him to send to his mum. I say attempted in the nicest way possible. He thinks he’s got a bit of a Chandler Bing smile (you know the episode), until he’s had a couple of drinks. But once I have a couple of drinks, my face is bright red with flush. See our dilemma?
Cue 2346384687 pictures, just in case.
Then it was time to enter.
Straight to the Royal Enclosure. How we do it.
And straight on the Bucks Fizz (Mimosas, if you will).
We were starving and praying there was pastries, but according to Gee, Tracy and Francis (who arrived before us), we’d just missed them. Drats.
At least it was lunch super soon, and we preoccupied ourselves with looking at the horses and preparing our bets as we waited.
Then. It happened.
Once we’d stuffed ourselves silly, we headed down to bet. We could bet upstairs, but it’s nicer to soak up the atmosphere. We also watched one of the races down there too.
We came up to watch the Queen and the Royal Family arrive.
Union Jack flags at the ready! (They gave them to us, we didn’t bring them along I swear).
So patriotic. All hail Queeny!
Then. DESSERT. I’d forgotten all about dessert. How rude of me.
How cute are those chocolates?
I got distracted by them and didn’t even see this coming….
Sorbet in a peanut brittle case. What is happening.
A lot more eating, that’s what.
Then a lot more betting.
Alas, I lost again. I’d bet one winner and one to place, and my bet to win would always place, and my bet to place wouldn’t place at all. Are you following me? Basically I lost all my money.
Others were slightly luckier than me though.
At least there was Afternoon Tea to cheer me up.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Dressing like a lady, drinking from 11am and betting, surrounded by family and friends. Best. Day. Ever.
