Dinner at Cock’s & Cows, Copenhagen

Hayden isn’t so into celebrating her birthdays. Which was totally fine, as long as she knew that I was very much into celebrating all birthdays. And I made damn sure that she knew.

Not only was she woken up to a beautifully in-tune ‘Happy Birthday’ with the smell of chocolate chip cookies topped with melting candle wax (and a shouting of “Bitch I know you’re awake” between the last two lines of the song), but I made sure I dragged her ass out for dinner later that night. And how better to celebrate than with burgers?

She’d been here before. I know because when I was searching online for the best burgers in this city, it came up, and she said it was fantastic, which intrigued me. What intrigued me even more was when she said the veggie burgers were insane. Oh, game on, veggie burgers.

We didn’t have a reservation, so Hayden, Bridget and I waited around. Well, they waited; I went skipping round to take pictures.

And that’s when I saw these bad boys.

P1500774

Retro milkshake heaven? Someone had to order one of these babies. And that was basically all I thought about until we were shown our table.

No, that’s not our table. That was a random table we passed and I thought it’d make a nice picture to show you their interior. We were sat in a booth seat with a couple of guys who had zero interest in speaking to us. But we took a great interest in their fries.

We kept glancing over and looking at the menu to see what they had. Hello there, Twister Fries.

P1500785

Well well, milkshakes, we meet again.

Choc Espresso sounded INSANE. Holy crap!

By this time, I knew it was less than a month until I’d be in the sunshine and in a bikini. As hard as I cried inside, that Choco Espresso would have to wait. Or maybe I’d make a nice vegan version with Booja Booja when I’m back in London.

Bridget couldn’t resist though, and soon enough I was staring deeply at her Strawberry Milkshake.

Hayden ordered an Elderflower Collins which sounded so good. Reminded me of that Rosemary Collins I had at Gorilla.

Birthday girl can’t be without a drink!

So the deal with this place is you pick your burger, then your bun you want with it. I knew from the start I was getting The Treehugger, which was a fried courgette patty with parmesan, garlic, tomato and aioli. I couldn’t decide what bun (classic sesame, whole grain, sweet american, gluten free) so I made a snap decision for whole grain, which I wasn’t dissapointed about. HEALTH IS WEALTH.

P1500812

Hayden also went for The Treehugger (it’s THAT good) but with a classic sesame bun.

P1500827

Bridget didn’t let that affect her and went for the Cheese’N’Smoke, their bacon and cheddar burger.

She also got a Sweet American bun, which I recommend getting if you want to take pictures as they burn their logo into it.

Did I mention we ordered fries?

Mountains of Twister Fries.

P1500813

Also the Salt and Vinegar Fries, which I actually preferred.

P1500820

Their special sauces are extra, so we got BBQ Sauce and Chilli Mayo. They said their BBQ Sauce is their speciality.

P1500822

It’s hard not to smile and have the feeling that you love the world/each other when all this food is in front of you. I should frame this picture.

P1500829

This is me looking lustfully at food, which was not the first time during this meal (remember that milkshake?)

P1500833

And this is how you’ll look when you first bite into that burger full of deliciousness.

P1500838

P1500843

Because – holy crap – this was a good veggie burger. Sorry, a GREAT one.

P1500848

I love veggie burgers because I’m so interested in how they make the patty, since everywhere is so different. This was definitely one of the best, especially if you’re a parmesan lover. That aioli on top is also delightful.

We inhailed our burgers, fries, everything, until there was nothing left. I honestly don’t know how we did it. I thought we were taking things easy, then I look down and there’s no fries left.

Satisfied that it was a successful birthday dinner, we headed to leave, which is when I caught a glimpse of their cocktail sign pointing downstairs.

Another time, cocktails, another time.
