The Bridges road trip continued through California, with Ming’s itinerary leading the way. Ming made sure we drove through Pebble Beach to look at The Lone Cypress, a famous attraction which is apparently the most photographed tree in the world.
THE MOST FAMOUS TREE IN THE WORLD.
It was such a pretty stop.
Love a obligatory tourist shot!
The thing is, all you need are a few minutes and few photos, then you’re good to go. Where to? Santa Cruz. Just for lunch though, because apparently that’s how we do it. I searched some places and the winner was The Kitchen at Discretion Brewing, for some great beer and farm-to-table food (everywhere in Cali seems to be obsessed with the term farm-to-table).
A book corner, so cute!
They also had a great outdoor area.
Now I’m not so much a beer girl, but every now and again when it’s sunny and I’m in the mood, I’ll get a pint.
I wasn’t short of options here.
But a pint wasn’t what I was after this time. It was the taster list.
Six mini-beers, here I come!
They were served in a cupcake tray – so hipster.
These were my choices…
I ordered a range because I wasn’t exactly sure what I liked.
The Lark was my favourite. I bought a growler (never knew what they were before this trip!) and filled up with The Lark to give the Boy. I wasn’t sure if the beer would last until I saw him, but the growler was super cool anyway! (Sorry I forgot to take a picture of it, so here’s another of the beer…)
Dad was driving, so he armed himself with a Daily Refresher – Live earth farm albion strawberries and thai basil.
More beer for me, then.
And then the reason we arrived… the food.
It was actually the Chicken & Waffles that initially struck me on Instagram. But since I’m a veggie, all I could do was opt for the rest and hoped they looked as good!
Oh, it did. (But for the record, the chicken & waffle looked excellent).
These beautiful little fingers are actually Cornbread – with serranos and honey lavender butter.
Delicious, but the butter was a little difficult to spread on the cornbread! I guess I’ll just pop a whole lump on.
Dad immediately eyed up the Ploughman’s Lunch for the table – pt. reyes blue, crostini, dijon mustard, loquat & balsamic marmalade, boiled egg and pickles.
To get a little green on the table, the Caesar Salad – local green leaf lettuce, garlic croutons, herbs and parmesan.
HEALTH I KNOW RIGHT.
My eyes immediately hit up the Kimchi Toast, which was with fresh farm egg, pickles, cilantro and chilli oil.
I loveeeeee everything in that dish, so what’s not to like?
What topped it all off was the Roasted Purple Cauliflower.
Great stop for some beer tasting and snacks. Santa Cruz, I wish I could stay longer!
