This is one of the places that I’ve been to a fair few times, but have never blogged about. That’s because I’ve never actually managed to get a seat here, and have been forced to get a takeaway. Isn’t that nuts?
And I’ll tell you exactly why. By Chloe is an all vegan spot. And it’s also insanely delicious. From salads and cold-pressed juices, to cocktails and burgers. Add on some super-cute branding and you can completely see why this New York fast-casual restaurant has been popping up with another location in New York and in LA, with more opening there and in Boston soon.
Usually we try to come at non-peak hours, but alas there’s still a line outside and New Yorkers fighting for seats. But Katie and I decided to take a chance at lunchtime, and guess what? SMALL LINE. TABLE. Destiny, some may say.
Katie manned the table and I waited in line, looking at all they had on sale.
You know a restaurant is doing well when they’re selling their own merchandise.
Not going to lie, but I already have all of Chloe’s cookbooks. What a babe.
It was my duty to do the order. I already knew exactly what to get.
After, I headed back to the table with my buzzer. The excitement was building.
I was also happy we got a table by the window. Hello, good lighting!
And then, this happened.
Let’s go through this, shall we?
They have a lot of salads, but my favourite is the Quinoa Taco Salad. You could swear that there is meat in this, but it’s actually spicy seitan chorizo (seitan is gluten), black beans, sweet corn, avocado, tomato, tortilla strips, crèma and agave-lime vinaigrette.
We also got a small portion of their Mac N’ Cheese – sweet potato-cashew cheese sauce, shiitake bacon and almond parm.
I also got us a couple of sweet treats to share – the Raspberry Tiramisu Cupcake and the Old-Fashioned Chocolate Chip Cookie.
I don’t usually like cupcakes, but this cupcake is insane. Chloe was the winner of Cupcake Wars, so she knows her shit. There’s even raspberry goodness stuffed inside. And that chocolate chip cookie is the best vegan cookie I’ve ever had.
Now, the burgers.
They have two – The Classic Burger and The Guac Burger. I ordered them both, but if you have a choice of just one then go for the Guac.
And what are these fries you see?
They’re not on the menu. Ask for the Oh-So Fancy Fries and this is what you’ll get. Heaven, basically.
Isn’t this the most insane spread?
Note the two little colourful pots at the back. You might have seen the picture of the dispensers earlier on at the start of the post. It’s the Beetroot Ketchup and Chipotle Aioli. Get them both, they are SO good!
Katie’ friend Sabrina had joined us as well, just in time for the goods.
It’s a spot I never fail to visit when I go to New York. Multiple times. Vegan never looked so good!
