I’m not one to eat (or drink) out alone, so when checking out new restaurants, I always take with me the person who I know will enjoy it the most.
When word got out that Breddos Tacos, the London-famous taco shack, was opening up their own restaurant back in November, I knew Frankie would be my taco-eating, margarita-drinking partner in crime. Tacos are big in Austin (where she lives), and, well, who doesn’t love margaritas?
Early in December, I put down all the Christmas wrapping paper and plans for the family and headed on over to Clerkenwell for a well-deserved break.
First call of order was margaritas. Yes it may have been midday, but Christmas was coming up and I needed this okay?!
And they were perfect. They went down almost too smoothly.
I also needed food. Because I’m always hungry.
Frankie picked out what she was craving (and what the waitress recommended – always go for the recommendations!) whilst I chose every veggie option on the menu.
I followed up the salsa and chips (they have different daily salsas!) with a Chanterelle Mushroom Tostada. Good, but nothing to shout about.
Then, oh baby, Tacos.
Highlights were the Organic Egg with macadamia nut mole, hoja santa + queso fresco for me and the Kung Pao Pork Belly with sichuan + spring onion for Frankie.
The Baja Fish was the one I was most excited to hear feedback on, but I think it fell a little short of expectations.
Then Frankie’s Cherry Stone Clam + Sea Urchin Aguachile arrived (yum yum), along with two plates full of cheese and potato goodness.
Queso Fundido with chorizo verde for the meaty and Queso Fundido with tomato for the veg head.
Oh Mama. I was hoping it be just slightly runnier and gooier, but if you’re a cheese fan, you can’t complain.
Amazing margaritas, a well done space, and great food with only a few parts not fully meeting my expectations for Bredoos Tacos. They’ve only just opened up, so there’s still time to find their feet. Oh, and they don’t take reservations, so get in line early!
