The Vegan Filet-O-Fish

When I was growing up, I ate a lot of McDonald’s. My parents weren’t that clued into nutrition when we were younger (in fact, we mostly taught them about it), so it wasn’t out of the ordinary to have Macca’s for dinner a couple of times a week. When we were in our teens, Ming and I used to get McDonald’s delivery (yep, they deliver in Singapore!), even though our closest McDonald’s was probably about 200m away. Lazy little shits.

Our typical order in our delivery was a large Big Mac meal each, a Double Quarter Pounder to share, 20 Chicken Nuggets, McWings and a McFlurry each. Ming didn’t get fat, but I sure as hell did.

But before I’d discovered the joys of a Big Mac and Double Quarter Pounder, for me, nothing could beat the Filet-O-Fish. A lot of people I’ve spoken to always thought that it was the weird burger no one ordered, but I loved it. So you can imagine my excitement when I found out Vegan Burgers by Mooshies in Brick Lane did a vegan version!

It’s called the Fillet-Om-Phish and it is just… wow. It’s made with aubergine. Aubergine. How the hell did they do that? My mind is blown!

A must-have with a trusty side of ‘cheesy’ chips.

Oh, and a cheeky PB&J cupcake.

An absolute treat of a meal. The bun could have been better, but that’s pretty much the only flaw I could pick out of the burger.

The couple who run the place are absolutely lovely, so be sure to stop by and say hello! Any now-vegan Filet-O-Fish lovers out there, you’re welcome!

but of course! guess you revisited Ming’s “the health journey” post for old time’s sake!!! though she forgot to mention the double quarter pounder for good measure!! haha she looked pretty tough and athletic at that time though, which was about the time when she was doing the tv show R.E.M. not like when she subsequently became not just thin but quite skinny in my opinion, like she was underweight or something, before for, well, we both know what happened next, which curiously was right about the same time i sunk into the deep dark abyss that i had experienced myself. but hats off and kudos to Ming for being such a fighter.

btw the city looked like a real mess with the effects of the tube strike spilling out onto the roads and streets!! hope you weren’t caught up too badly in the melee!!

and yes, i’m still surviving on only a meal a day (i know it sounds like a miracle but i just can’t seem/don’t need to eat any more at the moment) but taking in lots more fluids and singing a loooot (lalalalalaaaaa) ok i literally copied and pasted the “(lalalalalaaaaa)” from Ming’s blog (again!!) it really made me laugh when she said she was going to “sing to all (her) lovely fans (lalalalalaaaaa)…” hope i’m not “pissing off the neighbours” though. that was not from Ming btw that was from Zayn Malik’s Pillowtalk – one of my favs of the past year AND opening act of the Voice UK 2017!!!! i’m sensing a fantastic season ahead so catch it if you can on itv Saturdays at 8pm!!

Hi Bianca! I’d like your help to recommend some of your favorite places to eat in London. And also if you could suggest a few areas in London that’s really nice to hang out and enjoy life, instead of the usual city center tourist attraction places.
    Thank you!!

    Best regards,
    Samantha
